project2
what is it?

Before Apple bought it and stuffed it into iTunes, mac owners had Coverflow to make navigating their music library just that little bit more fun. Inspired by the use of Coverflow and this photo, project2 (working title) is an experiment in how to do something similar, yet different for Windows users.

By taking your album art from iTunes and displaying it on a giant wall, the aim of project2 is to create something that's part iTunes visualiser, part iTunes frontend, part art installation. It looks best on the largest widescreen tv/monitor you've got available.

Screenshots of project2 can been seen in my flickr set.

To play with project2 you'll need:

  • Windows (project2 has been ‘tested’ on XP and Vista)
  • Java (at least Java 6) from java.sun.com
  • iTunes (at least iTunes 7.1) from www.apple.com

Control project2 by right clicking with your mouse.

To access the new 2nd display mode: When project2 is fully loaded, right click to bring up the menu and select 'Switch Modes'.

download

The currently available version of project2 is technical preview #2 released August 2007.

The important stuff: project2 is currently in development and isn't usually properly tested. I can't (and won't) guarantee that it won't break and take iTunes with it. In I can't even guarantee that it will work on your machine. If in doubt, don't.
